Here’s the thing about Oscar Pistorius, before all this happened he was our hero. Alex met him, Alex hugged him, I looked up to him, he showed me that a guy with no legs can do absolutely anything and be a hero, and even though we didn’t really know him it kind of felt a bit like we did. Now, from what’s been reported this week one of two things may of happened: Either Oscar was involved in a tragic accident in which case we’re devastated, or he has committed a terrible crime in which case he has let us all down, and we are devastated. Regardless of what happened it’s desperately sad for everyone involved. It was someone that we looked up to, someone we felt close to, and because of that, if it’s ok, we won’t be making jokes about it tonight.
Said by Adam Hill on The Last Leg on Channel 4.
I was worried about watching The Last Leg on Friday, as it is a comedy show about the news that week, leg by three men; two of which have prosthetic legs. It is an amazing and hilarious show that began when the Paralympics did, and had a show each night of those two weeks. It is brilliant, but they joke about anything and everything, right or wrong.
I am still heart-broken about everything that has taken place with Oscar Pistorius, it hurts to think about it and that has shocked even me. I was scared my favourite show would make jokes at Oscar’s expense.
But, alas, they did not.
They said exactly what I feel. They said exactly what was right.
I cried as he made this speech, because I know how much they idolised him and how hurt they will all be right now.
I could not love this particular show any more than I do after watching this.
